Late Mr Noah Okon (TALLEST)

Noah Okon or Tallest as he was fondly called died young. I feel pain, deep pain, at his untimely demise. He was just 27 years old and I had known him all the way back to 2011 when as a banker I took note of him as one of the young men who rotated in my official and social circles.

Born 4th January 1993, Tallest was full of joie de vivre and found it easy to relate without a hint of intimidation from class differences. We would hang out often, gisting about life in general and about his dreams. He had always loved driving and hoped to make a career of it some day.

I remembered this particular dream of Noah’s and when God elevated me to high office in the Government of Kogi State, I helped him to secure a job as a driver in the Kogi State civil service even though he was from Ikono, Akwa Ibom State.

He had issues with that first engagement so when I became the Deputy Governor, I created room for him as one of my drivers. I have known him for 11 years since I was a banker and he is family to me, so I took him under my wings and tried to mentor him. He was coming along nicely too until his life was so tragically cut short.

Noah died on the 14th of December, 2020 of complications from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident a few days earlier. The death of a trusted aide is hard on the soul, but my pain is nowhere near the bottomless sense of loss that members of Noah’s nuclear and extended families must be feeling. Especially his mother and wife. Only God Almighty can console them.

Having discussed with my wife, we trust God to carry on with some basic obligations of his towards his loved ones especially; his wife, two children and younger siblings who are still schooling of our consistent support. By the grace of God, we will try to make this tragedy as bearable and recoverable as possible for them.

My man, Noah Okon was a down to earth person and a highly informed and engaging conversationalist. He was loved by many. He will be missed by all.

Tallest was an extremely loving Dad. He loved his family to high heavens.

This particular death pierced through my soul.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Olimene Attah Igala
Deputy Governor of Kogi State.
